Christian Knauer is a Professor at the Institute of Applied Computer Science and head of the Algorithms and Data Structures group at the University of Bayreuth. He has completed his diploma at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1997 and his PhD thesis and Habilitation at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2002 and 2007, respectively, were he was also an assistant professor from 2004 until 2009. Has has been granted a five year full-time scholarship from the Bavarian government, a full-time DFG PhD scholarship in the graduate program "Algorithmische Diskrete Mathematik", and the DFG Heisenberg scholarship.

Competences

Christian Knauer represents the whole range of Algorithmics in MODUS, in particular his research is focused in the area of computational geometry (CG). Computational geometry involves the design, analysis and implementation of efficient algorithms and data structures for geometric problems. It combines computer science techniques with the combinatorial analysis of the underlying geometric structure. He is interested in purely theoretical aspects of CG as well as practical applications of the field, especially in topics like medical navigation and shape recognition.
